Community and Connection

The veterinary profession has its fair share of challenges, but the thing that makes it so unique are the bonds we form with our colleagues, clients and patients. Community and connection is at the heart of veterinary medicine – it is not a journey you need to go on alone.

Introducing our co-founder and Director, Dr Emma McConnell

Emma graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2006, after moving to the UK in 1999. Following two years in small animal and mixed practice, she undertook a 12-month rotating internship in equine medicine and surgery at the Royal Veterinary College, London.

Having developed a passion for equine medicine and critical care, Emma moved to South Africa to take up a position as Resident in Equine Internal Medicine at Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital, University of Pretoria. On completion she spent several months as a lecturer at the university before returning to Perth in 2013.

Emma has a Masters degree in Veterinary Medicine, is a Senior Lecturer and Registered Specialist in Equine Medicine, Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Diplomate of the European College of Equine Internal Medicine. She currently works as a clinical academic in a university referral hospital, and takes great pride in providing an exceptional service to her patients (foals and miniature ponies especially).

Throughout her career, Emma has gained formative experience in providing clinical instruction and formal teaching to both undergraduate and postgraduate students in a variety of settings (academic, referral teaching hospital and private practice). As a result, she is acutely aware of the need to be flexible in how we exchange our knowledge and skills, to support each individual’s learning style. Emma is a firm believer in making a commitment to lifelong learning, which is precisely why she co-founded Platinum CPD; to provide veterinarians and veterinary nurses excellent quality, fit-for-purpose continuing professional development, delivered in a variety of ways to facilitate the most positive and inspirational learning experience.
