Catriona graduated as a vet from the University of Edinburgh in 2004. After a spell in private practice she returned to Edinburgh to undertake a residency in equine medicine with a focus on cardiology. She gained the RCVS certificate in equine internal medicine in 2010 followed by European board certification in equine internal medicine in 2011. During her residency Catriona completed a master’s degree investigating sudden death in Thoroughbred racehorses. She then went on to work as a senior lecturer in equine medicine at the University of Pretoria in South Africa until 2016. There she became interested in infection control and antimicrobial stewardship and she’s currently enrolled in a postgraduate programme in One Health with the University of Glasgow.
