Danii the Vet Nurse, as she is fondly referred to by those that know and love her, has to be one of the biggest ambassadors for veterinary nursing as a career. For many, veterinary nursing might be a transient choice; a stepping stone in the journey to being a veterinarian, a stop-over on the way to a role in industry or simply the job before one's true interests are realised. But for Danii, being a veterinary nurse is her career, her long-term plan; it is a huge part of who she is and her passion for the role is undeniable.
But it hasn't been all smooth sailing for Danii. Although she found her happy place in the world of emergency, the rigours of the job resulted in her experiencing burnout and compassion fatigue, to the point where she actually left the profession. Luckily for us though, her inherent drive and love for veterinary medicine was simply too strong, and after a 3-month hiatus, she retuned to the profession.
In this episode, Danii opens up about her experiences, and shares with us how she makes sure she will never reach the point of burnout again. As the veterinary nurse ambassador for Vets: Stay, Go, Diversify - Down Under, Danii D is not shy about putting the role of veterinary nurses in the spotlight! She highlights just how important mentorship is for career satisfaction, and lets us know that it's high time veterinary nurses were given a seat at the table.
